4 days of joy, 4 days of laughter, 4 days of getting know know one another better, 4 days of self-disappointment, 4 days of anxiousness, 4 days of practices, 4 days of sadness, 4 days of slogging out in the freezing band room, 4 days of intense band rehearsals, 4 days of living together!
These 4 days have left a huge impact in us, leaving footprints and memories in us that will probably stay in us for a long time. It may be one of the last few camps the seniors will be spending it with the band, because they'll be leaving very soon next year for their O Levels..
Next year, that term, probably sounds very far away. But look, look at how we have come together, from a 'Only-Sec-1' band in 2005 to a 'Sec 1 to 3' band this year in 2007! :O That's like 2 years and I don't think it passed very slowly.. In fact, it's like a bullet train, with the speed of light, bringing us 2 years from 2005... (pardon me if my words do not match, it's past midnight already)
This band camp has been filled with hard drilling of intonation, technique, and we truly hope that we have achieved what the instructors have wanted to achieve!
The SYF audition process was nothing else but scary... Scary, terrifying, horrifying, excruciating, frightening, whatever words you can use. Many people broke down, some with hopes dashed and some with confidence shattered. But let's all treat this as a journey. A journey through hardships, just like planting your own crops. And in no time, all of you will reap what you have sown, and you will do just that on the stage in the Singapore Conference Hall in April, where you will showcase what you have learnt throughout your 2 to 3 years of music making. You will walk up the stage, and give it all you've got, leaving no space for regrets, being able to leave the stage with heads held high. You can do it!
Don't just think joining the band is just to achieve well in the Singapore Youth Festival. The most important things about joining the band is far from just SYF. It's about the bonds and friendships created while spending your Secondary life in band, proceeding to the band room right after school for sectionals everyday, helping out those in doubt. It's so heartwarming, watching how you grow, from a band member who doesn't know the notes to a piece, to a musician who takes into consideration the musicality of the piece, using your musical sense to mould a piece of score into a sea of emotions, into a flowly agressive (or subtle) river.. Friendships strengthened, bonds formed. That's what we want to achieve ultimately in the band, and I hope everyone has this in mind. What's so great about SYF being the sole objective of the band? No doubt it is something that challenges us to give in our best, but what can beat having best friends in band, showing and getting care and concern?
Not only have we formed friendships with one our fellow bandmates (and I mean really strong and tight friendships), but we have also formed a bond and friendship with the instructors. They really do deserve our upmost respect. Their devotion and dedication, care and concern have spoken a gazillion words, showing how much they care for us. Their extra on-paying time spent on sectionals with us, coming back on non-band days to help us out. All these show why we should be putting in our effort. Let's do our best, let's not let them down and most important, not let ourselves down!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Let's want that gold. Let's not be afraid of wanting it. The more we want it, the more we will get it.
Band, let's chionggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggg! :P
Hey, we can do it! OKAY???????????????????????
