Today was a great day. We had a good exchange with Bukit Merah and North View Secondary School Bands. I'm sure you all learnt something from one another!
I must say that today is the best performance put up by you especially since tuesday and wednesday's assembly performances. You know something? Ever since taking PHCB since last year, today you all made us proud to say that we're instructors of Pei Hwa Secondary School Concert Band. Today you played what we told you to play and we can see and hear our teachings come through your playing.
Flutes: Well done. Besides Chingyi being a little flat initially in bar 19 of eagle bend, everything
else was good. Good and clearly projected solo from Jiaqi. Good bird too :)
Clarinets: Good! Now I hear confidence and courage in your playing. Bold, expressive and no
more fearful.
Saxophones: Nice ensemble sound. Alastair played his solos with ease, fluidity and
expressivity. Well done!!! Proud of you!
Trumpets: A little scared maybe? Just a tad soft. You didnt play badly at all. Remember:
Don't sacrifice what you learnt and can do just because of the word FEAR
Horns: Good, finally no mispitch in eagle bend!
Trombones: Nice sound, you guys probably don't realise how nice you sound as a section.
Let me put it in a direct way. The band won't sound as good without the 5 of you!
So now, put that nice sound into rhythimic precision and dynamic contrasts.
Euphonium: Nice sound especially in the slow section of eagle bend. The first note of sunrise
was not bad too.
Tubas: Good solid sound from 3 tuba players. All of you have improved! (Mr Tan's words) :)
Percussion: Not too bad. Can be more showy and precise. Still some errors in some parts......
Guys and girls...........about 8 more days now..........FOCUS FOCUS AND COOPERATE WITH US........we want you to do well.
Proud of each and every one of you.....the 47 of you who played today
Mr Tang :)
