Dear Members,

Happy New Year!

These is the practice schedule for this year:

Mondays: 330-630pm
Thursdays: Optional Sectionals
Friday: 230-630pm

If you can be at music room early, Please do your individual practice! Do not sit there and chit chat.

The practices start 30 minutes later than last year. Please be seated and ready by 315pm on Mondays and ready by 215pm on Fridays.

The practices will end promptly and you will be dismissed before 630pm definitely.

*******It is less than 100 days away from your SYF*******
Please try to do your sectionals on thursdays for those who can make it.
If you can make it without parent complaint but choose not to attend because you don't feel like coming, then it's a big disappointment.

Anderson Junior College will be holding a tune in on the 16th Dec 2010.
All of you are invited to join this us!
IT is an half day event with a range of exclusive events being lined up for you. :)

Guaranteed hell of fun and exciting games based on the theme which will be revealed later! We'll then have a combined band practice involving the sec 4s and AJ band to interact and make some music! We'll all learn together, so don't worry too much! :D

BAND STUDY SESSION!!!!

BAND!!

We will be having a band study session on this thursday (12aug)
since there are common test coming up!!

This is what will be happening on thursday:
2.30 to 3.30 - sectionals
From 3.30 onwards, It will be our STUDY TIME :D:D:D

Things to take note:
1. This is a study session, not a playing or fooling around session
2. You are allowed to talk/discuss but please note that there are people that are studying
so please try to lower down your volume
3. You are allowed to study any subject you want
4. Please clear as many doubts you have for that particular subject.
We organize this study session so that if you have any doubts or difficulty, there will be a friend/senior there to help :D
5. Please bring at least a textbook/worksheet etc for you to study, don't come empty-handed
6. Please note that the sectionals as well as this study session are OPTIONAL
7. You are allowed to leave whenever you need to leave
8. I will confirm with you the classes that we will be studying at by that day itself
9. Lastly Sec1-4 band members are welcome to this study session :D:D

Band, please make good use of this study session and do well for your common test :D

Dear Musicians,

At this juncture, the results are not announced. However, like what I said, we can't do anything after that last note in the Rakes of Mallow.
As long as you all know you did your best, that's the best result already! :)

We have already achieved our goals and aim:
1) Improve our performance standards
2) Competition exposure for Sec 2s (since they make up half the band!)
3) Get ready better for SYF 2011

The performance was not bad, at least, it's the best performance of those 3 pieces by your all so far.

Congrats and continue working hard. There's no limit to musical excellence!

Please do not forget the support of your dear alumni members!

Dear Musicians,

Congratulations on a wonderful performance last night. It was a very good experience performing in a wonderful concert hall.

I know some of you were nervous when you saw the hall filled with audience. Thus, it was really good experience. We all gain confidence through these performance opportunities! There'll be more to come.

Well done, Junior Band. You have done well last night and must not stop here. You are the Band's future and remember: Pei Hwa Band must only get better and better! There's no limit to musical excellence!

NOW.......in a few days.....SIBF!

Seniors, you know from last night's performance that there're still many areas for improvement. We will do our best to improve all these areas before next thursday. Thus, I need co-operation - 100% Attendance!!! SLs make sure! There're only 2 more practices to go. We can afford no time wastage!

I know its tough on you guys.
But, please this is not the standard we had been playing.
We are constantly deproving.

Dear band members,

The band is organising a band outing this wednesday, 23 june.
We will be meeting MrTang at east coast's macdonald outlet at 9am
For those who does not know how to go, you can meet the rest at Compass Point, outside 7-11 at 7.30am , please do not be late.

We will be having our breadfast first then follow by cycling/roller blading and then bowling.
After that, we will have our dinner and then catch the movie, Toy Story 3!!

For the bowling event, it might change again as the place won't be enough to hold the whole band, maybe we will just split into group, some play bowling & some play pool.
and please note that this is NOT a compulsory event.

Lastly please tell your SLs if you are meeting us at 8am
and lets look forward to our first band outing :D:D:D

Dear Band Members and Alumni,

Firstly, a very big thank you to all of you. Without your efforts (be it in the past or the present), tonight's concert would not have been possible. It is not only about how the band plays. The story behind the band performance is the part that the audience do not see. The scoldings, the pressure, the hardwork, the dedication and most importantly, the Friendship.

Now, about this year's secondary fours.
I am immensely proud of each and every one of you:

I still remember the days when you were in secondary 1. Preparing for Junior Band Festival and I was very proud of you then. No less so today! You all have come a long way in antagonising me and torturing me every band practice but through those sessions, I actually enjoyed the time with you all and a close bond is formed! Yes....shake head!!!

I hope that the friendship bonds we have developed will stay with you forever!

With regards to today's performance, it was not bad! (not too bad lol) Too bad, I set very high standards, so getting a "not bad" from me is already not bad!

Just remember, no music performance/musician is ever ready. If any musician tells you he/she's super ready, that person has lots to learn because music is never perfect.
I hope you remember this principle and continue to strive hard in whatever you do in life!

I have written some notes for each of the sec 4s, will pass them to you one by one when practice resumes ok!

As for the junior band's performance today, well done! Your debut performance in front of a big crowd. You played well but remember what I said about "readiness". Imagine this, you will play like your seniors/better than them even in 1-3 years time. :)

Lastly, I want to thank everyone of you for having me teach your band. I truly enjoy myself majority of the time. lol

ALUMNI, thanks for coming back. It was wonderful feeling, especially during the photo motage, with the memories of us in Hong Kong. Priceless memories and friendship!

Once again, congrats with tonight's concert! The band MUST only get better! :)
Study hard for exams and do well ok! Band students are smart students!

Just wanto thank each and everyone of you for your hardwork and sweat in preparing for speech day haha I know it has been tough.

West Winds returns in another collaboration with Esplanade - Theatres on the Bay, to bring audiences on yet another journey through music. From Japan in 2008 to Europe in 2009, West Winds returns to a region that is close to our hearts and in our own backyard - Asia.Asia is regarded by many as an eclectic yet charming mix of rich, diverse and colourful cultures with this clearly reflected in our food and music. This evening, West Winds will bring you across the eastern and northern hemispheres of Asia, from China to Saudi Arabia. Audiences will get to hear a musical representation of each Asian region from Alfred Reed's "Armenian Dances Part 1" to our very own "Postcard from Singapore" written by international and noteworthy composer Philip Sparke.Conducting this evening's concert will be MAJ Philip Tng and our Guest Conductor, Yasuhide Ito. Hi Batch 2009 members!

Congrats on the O level results.
I know most of you did well and are happy with your results! :)

I did not see everyone but overall everyone did well!

This's just a start! You still have an arduous journey through Poly/JC and university.
The band is proud of each and everyone of you and wishes you all the best for your bright future ahead.

To sum up what Xinfei said, please take note of the followings:

1) Band Practice Days (for sec 2-4) starting from the second week of 2010:
Mondays 300-600pm
Thursdays 330pm onwards is optional self practice/sectionals
Fridays 230-630pm

2) For this coming tuesday's CCA Fiesta, this is the basic plan we must adhere to:
1235: Classes end
1305: Report in Band Room changed (Band Tee + School Bottom)
1310: Full Band Warm up in Band Room while percussionists bring instruments down and
help band set up at quardrangle.
1345: Band starts moving downstairs
1400: CCA Fiesta begins

3) What will we be doing for CCA Fiesta on tuesday?
We will be performing Ponyo, Mission Impossible and Sesame Street, as well as having an
open rehearsal. We will work on ABBA Gold like we would in a normal band practice
so the sec 1s and their parents can see how practices are like.
The booth will be managed by possibly teachers and the alumni who will also help with
the distribution of flyers and talking to students/parents.

That should be all for now. Please cooperate with ensuring your school attire is proper and your hair is of correct length for school standard. Just follow the rules. There have been some complaints already about band members not adhering to rules.

Dear band :)

as you all know, on tuesday 5th jan, we will be having our CCA fiesta!!!
all lessons will end at 1235pm on that day. i need you all to hurry your lunch and be back in the band room ASAP because we have got alot to prepare.
we will do a warmup in the band room and maybe a run through or something.
LOGISTICS! i need you all to come up with a plan as to who will be helping to set up the booth, who will be helping to carry the percussion instruments, who to set up the chairs etc.
***the place of our booth will be at the place we used to stand whenever we play our national anthem and school song.
the CCA fiesta will officially begin from 2pm to 5pm, which means we only have got limited time to prepare i need you guys to chop chop and do things fast on that day, okay? ^^

we'll be doing an open practice in the quadrangle so that the sec 1s can see and observe.
we'll start with ponyo, then mission impossible by percussion ensemble and then sesame street by saxes. we'll then be doing abba gold during our practice.

please be in your band tee and school bottom on that day! sec 2s (2010) to be in your pe attire.
needless to say, SHIRTS ARE TO BE TUCKED IN :)
a reminder from miss lee: to adhere all school rules on that day be it your hair, your nails, your skirts, hair colour and everything. we need to portray a good image for the band!!!

also, the band room will be opened on the first day of school for you to do your own sectionals.
percussion and saxophone section please be there to run thru your ensemble piece!!
starting from the second week of 2010, band practices will be on Monday, Thursday and Friday. please take note of this and make changes accordingly!

Excellent Band Camp!

Dear Musicians,

I wish to thank the EXCO for organising such a great camp. Everything was very well organised and planned for. Thanks to Miss Lee and Miss Wong! The camp would not have run so smoothly if not for their advice and meetings with the EXCO before the camp.

To me, the highlight of the camp was the ensemble competition. I see many tear after the competition and to me, that's a sign that you care. It is a sign that you want to continue to improve yourself for yourself, your section and your band. It was a good experience playing in a competitive setting.

The games were fantastic although I did not participate in them (except the last day :P). Just realise that it did not just happen naturally. The EXCO spent many hours planning them and even doing dry runs to make sure it's fun and friendship bonding.

During the talk after the ensemble competition, I mentioned many things and I hope you will put those words to heart. Let your pursuit for excellence in music be reflected in all areas of your life - studies etc. Continue to love and feel for each other because there's no experience that can quite compare to secondary school band life! My secondary school band days remain one of the most memorable years of my life. I hope you will get the same experience as I do! :)

Let's work together to make better music and friendship. After all, that's what band is all about!

YEY OMG BAND CAMP'S ON TUESDAY ARE YOU GUYS LIKE EXCITED!!!!!!!!!!!!! ^^

3 things you'd definitely need to bring for the camp:

#1. yourself
#2. stuff listed on the pack list (duh)
#3. an open heart*

yes i would like to stress on number 3 because to enjoy the camp, all you need is an open heart.
as in not really cut your heart out and show me, what i mean is to come to the camp with a good attitude.
i know not all of you may be feeling as excited as me about attending the camp but if you all are people who say "eh band camp ah.... sian. why must go" , then sad to say of course you won't be enjoying the 4 days and 3 nights spent with the band.

but if you are people who say "okay. this band camp is going to be fun and i'm very excited because i'm going to learn new things and bond with the band!!!! I CANT WAIT" , then i can assure you these 4 days 3 nights would prolly be your best few days of your entire life.
(okay at least for 2009 :P)

i hope none of us are like the people who dread this band camp because the exco really did a lot for this camp and i believe the best reward they would love to receive is to see the band really bonding and enjoying this 4 days together.
OKAY!!!!!!!!!!? ^^
especially to the sec 3s, this would be our last band camp already. we should treasure it all the more and have fun!

Dear band, :)

You know, I was rather disappointed when i saw the number of seniors who attended sectionals today.
I understand all of us are going through a hard time and busy studying for the upcoming tests but reallllllllly, i am not asking much.
All i require is at most 30 minutes of your time to come for band and do your self-practice.... Is it really too much to ask?
If you wish to see our band improve, this is the only way.

Comeon' band, where is our syf's fighting spirit!

I have said my piece. I really hope to see an improvement in attendance for sectionals on thursdays, ok?
Don't forget, there will be a teacher's day concert rehearsal next thursday.

Dearest bandies ^^

Our banner is finally completed!!!
I know some of you haven't really seen the end product but no worries, it will be up pretty soon :D
Just in case you don't know what the banner is for, it is to motivate our sec 4 seniors for their o and n levels.

Okay, these are the people i wanna thank for staying back and helping out with the painting/drawing/out-lining.
They are Anna, Joey, Xuying, Arnold, Huimin, Tammy, Yanhong, Tessa, Bryan, Sabrina, Ellabelle and me!!!!!!! ^^
Thanks for sacrificing time and giving your 101% in making the banner. WE DID IT!!!!!! haha.

Dear Members,

We have a third week of practices cancelled because of the infamous H1N1 VIRUS.
You'll be updated as to when practices will resume.

Meanwhile, PLEASE bring home your instruments to practice.
If you have your instruments at home, you are expected to do self practice on the usual band practice times. If you do this, individual standards can improve over this period.

However, if you choose to slack and take it easy, we'll find out once practice resumes. In music performance, there's no cheating. If you did not practice, the output (your sound and playing) will probably be more deadly than the H1N1.......SLs to monitor practicing situation with section...

Hey bandies :)

School is stopping CCA for another week, again........ (which is very sad) :(
I hope all of you brought home your instruments however if you have not already done so, Mr Beng will be opening the band room on Tuesday after school for those who wish to take home their instruments.

I will also be printing out the worksheets Mr Tang gave me for each section to work on during this one week break. We cannot afford to lose anymore time!!!
Sls please organise section meetings and get all of your section members, mainly the seniors, to teach the sec 1s whatever is on the worksheet. Especially how to read notes and teach them the fingerings!

Exco meeting will still be on, Tuesday 3pm in the band room.
We have to discuss about our school page which is due on 31st july, and the cca banner which is due on 24th july.
Chop chop ok come quickly after your lunch! :P

You know, we have been neglecting our band tee for a very long period of time already right.
It is feeling so bored in your cupboard and wants to come out for some fresh air.
HAHA so, i'm going to grant its wish on thursday, the 25th!!
Okay in simpler words, please come in your band tee and PE shorts for the next practice and full PE attire on friday, 26th.
Sec 1s please come in FULL PE ATTIRE for both of the practices.

Hope it isn't very confusing because if you are not present in the correct attire then you would have to go back home to change and then come back to serve punishment!! Heh heh troublesome right.
And remember, please DO NOT be late!!!!!!!!!!

Alastair's Coming Concert with TJC

Alastair will be performing in this upcoming concert with Temasek Junior College Band.

Date: 23/5, Saturday

I will be attending and I hope to see many go support your own alumni. Alastair has always been coming back to PeiHwa to help and I think we should show him our support.

practice resuming on the 19th

Hello dear bandies :)

I bet most of you are rejoicing since exams are over right!!
YAY HAHA I SEE PEOPLE SMILING.
So now i'm sure you all are praying hard for practice to resume asap and thus, here's good news!

Band will officially resume on the 19th may, Tuesday.

For juniors, mainly the sec 1s, practice for you will be on Thursdays and Fridays.
Thursdays: 2.30 to 5.30pm.
Fridays: from 2pm to 3pm, seniors will be coaching you and after that will be your own self-practice, at least until 4pm.
*Tuesdays will be a so-called "optional" day for the sec 1s. However, optional days = very important because this is time for you to brush up your skills.

For seniors, practice will be on Tuesdays and Fridays.
Tuesdays from 3.30pm to 6pm, and Fridays from 2pm to 6pm.
So thursdays will be an "optional" day for you all but still, its best for you to come back to do self-practice on your solo pieces which will be given to you on the 19th :)

Okay so for this coming Tuesday, seniors please be ready by 3.30, not setting up at 3.30.
The best is be ready and start doing your own warm-ups around 3.15 because you all haven't been touching your instruments for quite some time already.
If you have ace/remedials (which i doubt so since exams are over now), kindly inform your SLs and come asap ok!!!

I hope all of you are feeling as excited as me haha cuz' I can't wait for practice to resume!
I want to see everybody coming to band smiling and happy huh. heh heh ^^

Firstly, let me congratulate you on a successful concert. This concert marks the beginning of our annual concert series and at the same time, somberly, marks the last time we'll have the Secondary 4 batch of 2009 perform with us as Pei Hwa Symphonic Band.

However, contrary to the saying "All good things must come to an end", we should not see this as an end. I'm very sure we will always see them around us and this spirit of friendship and passion for music should never cease.

When I conducted "Friends for Life", I seriously tried not to look at you all because I would have given in to human emotions!

SYF 2009 - SILVER

Dear Members,

Silver! That's a big leap from 2007.

I'm happy not because of the medal but it's because you have indeed worked very hard and did your best on stage today! On stage, I could feel your confidence and that in turn gave me confidence, especially in Overture.

Everyone of you who played today made me proud of you!
Our band is only barely 4 years old and this is already a fantastic achievement! :)

I have faith that we will do better in future definitely.

Please do not see SYF as an end. We still have our graduation concert on 17/4 in our school hall.
I think that's more meaningful because it'll be the Sec 4's last concert with us before they stand down from CCA. :(( But I'm sure we'll always see them around. I'll miss them lots!

With strong alumni (2008, 2009s), good current members and a promising junior band, we have all the ingredients for making a wonderful band. Let's all work hard, not for the sake of SYF only, but more importantly, for the joy of music making and wonderful friendship!

Dear Musicians,

This is the schedule on Monday. Time is an extremely crucial factor here so please try to adhere to the timings-Change fast, eat fast and move fast!

1000-1145: Full Band in Hall
1145-1215: Dress Up/ Eat
1215: Pack and Board Bus
1230: Bus to leave school

Please note that during Dress Up/Eat time, WW eat first, Brasses dress, then swap roles.

Any delays in reporting times for any event will result in less practice time!!!

Please turn up in band room on Monday morning before 730am to put your uniforms.

There will still be morning practice session from 650am-720am.

As for breakfast, the SLs will inform you about the final plans.

Rest well, drink lots of water and eat more bananas.

Countdown to the SYF 2009 !! - 7 Days from today!

Dear bandmates of mine,

(Yeah many of you are having your pupils dilating now, wondering since when did this geek-like person came back online!)

School's back for it's 2nd term of this year, and the mid-year examinations seem nearer than it is.
Wait!! Don't fret over it just yet!
Listen to this first!
This is so because we feel time past really fast, doesn't it?
And why does time past really fast to you when it is actually a constant in this world?
To put it simple, our brain experiences so much fun and lively moments we involuntarily slip-off from time!

Well, to us bandmates, I'm definitely sure that we are all having fun each day.
And a huge majority of that fun takes place in our very own musical rehearsals! :)

Our very own SYF competition is coming soon in just a quick wink of 7 days!
No, 7 days isn't long.
Especially when time seems to past always so quickly to us!
Thanks to the very engaging and engrossing musical rehearsals we are going to have tomorrow afternoon, Thursday and Friday.
Not forgetting our very last practice on Saturday before our very day, Monday, on the SYF.

Frankly speaking, these 7 days are not used to be worried and for fumbled practices.
All the more we should be having fun touching up our pieces, then time passing by quickly will be time spent wisely!
Feel the spirit of the pieces!
Imagine the stories plotted by our different sections and apply it every single time that section is being played and worked on!

Personally from me, I vehemently advice everyone to imagine us with Mr Tang on the performing stage with just 5 listerners as our audience in the hall during the day itself.

That would be our 3 Teachers-in-charge, Miss Lee, Mr Beng, Mr Teo, our ex teacher-in-charge Miss Chng. And one of our band's greatest help of all, Mr Kenneth Fung.

My reason for this is because I want each and everyone of us in the band, to perform as if we are thanking them for the hard work they have put into us for the past few months back.
We want to show them that this band takes pride in their music and let them feel proud of us!
We want to touch them through our musical warmth!

And, noticed Mr Tang in his casual wear (just like he had just gotten out of bed?) this morning, 7am at our very own band room?
Many of us dread waking up for school, but look at this angle.
After he announced that he will be coming right in the morning for 20 minutes to coach as many of us during the individual practice from 7am to 7.20am, many turned up this morning!
Before this, only a handful of 10 turned up every morning to practice.
But look at today!
Over 20 came!
Mr Tang was rushing here and there, pin-pointing out the mistakes of each and everyone of us.
Citing ways of how to improve the tone quality and articulation.
Guys, put yourself in his shoes.
Waking up early in the morning just for us, and the time spent with us is not an hour or so like what we do during practices.
It's just 20 minutes?!

So come at 7am with a burning desire!
Don't get distracted or be late!

That's all I have to encourage you guys!
Perhaps some of you might wanna add on as well? :)

Just remember, follow Mr Tang and take these last 4 practices before the SYF even more seriously than you have ever taken! :D
And most importantly, savour every picosecond of it!

We will be having some games and bonding activities together followed by a BBQ dinner. This is a great opportunity for all of you to get to know all your seniors!

Hello everyone!
and yes, band camp's coming in 3 days' time!
be mentally prepared for the torture(:

i'm sure all of us are excited due to the fact that Mr Kenneth Fung's coming,
so let's have enough sleep (and not to chit chat with your friends when it's sleeping time) so that we will have energy to concentrate for his sectionals!

For those who are thinking:
argh, it's band camp again. it will be so tiring for me, and there will only be practice and practice and practice (sulks like the world owes them) !!! ,
then you are totally wrong!
the camp will be filled with fun, not forgetting the determination to play our parts well(:

This band camp is a special one,
we are finally going to have a BBQ!
so remember to bring $5 and pass it to chingyi.

Thus, rest assured that you will have a great time at the camp!
cuz treasure hunt will be played at night.......... WAHAHA.

Hi all!
How have you been? Busy with studies and practice I presume. SYF is up soon and so are Term CAs. Just like what Mr Tang says- both are important.

Well, I’ve finally settled into a routine and term has started. Melbourne has been going through some hardship with at least 4 bushfires raging and loss of 211 lives. They were finally subdued last week with the rain and the change of wind direction and guess what we were then hit with an earthquake Thursday night- 4.7 Richter scale and I am staying in a very tall building. Scary...... but I’m ok :)

Anyway, do drop a line to keep in touch and work hard for gold ok.

Thanks for the wonderful post and update about your life in Melbourne. I'm sure it's a nice feeling to be a student once again! :)

SYF is coming up and we'll do our best and play our hearts out.
After the SYF we will have a mini concert in the School Hall on 17th April.
We'll try to video it and convert it into a DVD and send it to you in Melbourne!

I wish to extend my congratulations to the 2008 Secondary 4 members!

Among the top sudents of the school, 3 came from band:

2) Alastair - 10 points
3) Camillus - 11 points

IMPORTANT CHANGES FOR 2009

Dear members,

I just got this information from the teachers.

From next year, ALL school CCAs are to be held on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays.

I understand many students have arranged tuition on tuesdays and thursdays.
I have to ask you to go change your tuition timing or change tutors.
We have no choice. It's a school decision.

Please work as a band and settle this problem first because we (teachers and myself) are trying to solve other problems.....many problems........

Please explain to your parents clearly that it's a school decision so it's MANDATORY for those days to be used for CCA.

Hey Bandmates,

Firstly a very belated Merry Christmas , yeah I know it's 3 days since it passed.
But hope everyone liked what they got for Christmas , especially from our Gift Exchange programme.

Anyway, almost all of you should know that the band video that I've compiled from the Hong Kong trip is done.
The file size is 250 mb (please note it is mb and not kb)
Members who wish to have a soft copy of it are free to bring their thumbdrives with at least a minimum of 250 mb free space.
You can hand it over to me before lunch on the 30th and I'll get it copied into your thumbdrive and return it back to you before practice ends :D
Otherwise, you would just have to view it after the practice.

I'm sure you enjoyed yourselves yesterday! Regardless of the hot weather and sweating, I'm sure everyone went home with smiles and laughter.

Just remember to be more helpful to one another when it comes to carrying percussion instruments and be more organized!

SIBF Over! Some Notes......and reflections....

Hi My dearest members of PHSSCB,

First of all, I want to let you know how proud I am of you for your performance today.
I heard the recording and it is the best you have played to date and that's the most important!

The results are not out at this moment but for me, you have emerged as winners already.

Some notes:

1) Flutes: Well done most of the parts, some intonation hiccups :P
2) Clarinet: Powerhouse section but with some intonation problems too!
3) Saxophone: Well done, can hear you all clearly!
4) Trumpet: You could not have done better with 4 players, some problems but will be fixed by next year!
5) Horns: I can hear you! Some nice notes, some not so nice...you know what to do!
6) Euphoniums: Very nice sound and clearly a very strong section
7) Trombones: Very strong too but make sure everyone can play all the notes by next year!!
You know who you are! :)
8) Tuba: Just nice, luckily you did not overdo things and go sharp! :)
9) Percussion: ZhangMi, good job haha. Good, continue to listen to Ms Akari and work hard!

This competition has brought the band closer together and there's this strong band spirit within us now! I want you to keep this positive attitude and love for band and each other on and on!

We have good things to look forward to: Year End Trip!!! :)

Regardless of result tonite, I think we should all feel happy. Only we know what we went through to play for 15 minutes on stage today! Congrats :)

Band Camp Afterthoughts

Dear Merry Band Members,

Firstly, thank you for attending the camp. I hope most of you enjoyed the camp although it was quite tiring. Overall I think the camp is a successful one and I thank the EXCO for organising and running the camp.

Thanks to the following people especially:
1) Yanying and Junhao (BM and DM) for overseeing the whole running of the camp;
2) The rest of the EXCO for their assistance;
3) The Sec 4s who came and helped out (especially Alastair, Camillus, Yanting and Eunice)
4) Last and not least, everyone's efforts.

Besides improving in your performance skills, you also know your fellow bandmates better now. I hope that everyone (esp sec 1s) feel that you're really part of a big family with your seniors being your elder brothers and sisters.

Overall I am really happy to see many of you try your best to improve your playing skills and taking practices seriously. However there are always things we can improve on!

West Winds Concert -

Dear members , by today's band practice I would presume all of you would have already know your seating arrangement .

Please note that changing of seats is not allowed to prevent any inconvenience .
Please use this chance to mingle with your section mates :D

The tickets are fully subsidized and you will get back your $6 upon attending the concert . So don't worry .

Please note that no shorts and slippers are allowed .
The reason is very simple , imagine an auntie from the hawker centre enters the Esplanade .
Ticket ushers may have a high possibility to stop you from entering , this is to those going to the Esplanade for the first time .
So be wise , dress up in your ball-room gowns or tuxedoes even if you want :D
As long as you're not an ah-huay from the kopitiam .

Please note also that everyone must be gathered at 6.50 sharp , even if you think being late is the in-thing now , you won't be permitted into the concert after the doors are closed .
And please bring along your EZ LINK CARD or IC .
This is because the tickets are student-priced , so we bought the tickets at a student price , if you don't have verification , you won't be able to enter .
What a wasted trip if that happens right ?

Please refrain from talking or handphones ( I hate to repeat this although it must ).
All should know that there are also ushers inside and during the play .

I think all this information is in the consent form , I'm just stressing this to you .

Band Photos

Yeah yeah I know many are complaining up there on the tagboard .
Many , about 3 right ?
Or maybe more .

Well finally the clarification is made HERE .
Firstly I apologise for not uploading after Thursday as I had a mild fever and went home immediately after school's test ( and many would go like "Uh yeah right" ) , So I shan't argue about it .

Secondly , the files are really big and would have taken much time being uploaded .
So ... I've spent much time resizing them already during this weekend :D

And guess what ?
They'll be UP here by tomorrow after band practice !

The photo's which are going to be uploaded
will only be those which are section with instructors
and ALL the whole band photos (Ya "YAY!" and thank me :D )

What about the others ?
If you meant others as those which I've taken just for fun ...
Well , take it that I don't want you to be laughed at , I'll just be putting those into a CD and giving it to Alastair as he's going to make one farewell video or movie something .

Chinese New Year Celebrations and Photo Taking

Dear Members,

Just to announce that today's Chinese New Year Concert Celebrations photos will be uploaded after the Chinese New Year (Hey I'm also celebrating it ok haha).

Was very Happy to see everyone co-operate although most was reluctant to have their happy faces expressed in a photo.

Furthermore the section by section photos were the most hilarious.

Our Pioneer Batch of Seniors

Dear Band Members,

Two years have passed in the blink of an eye. These two years have definitely been fruitful and memorable for both instructors and members. We finally have our pioneer batch of band members promoted to secondary four and almost immediately they have to retire from their duties. "Have I done enough?", "Did I build my section well?", "Am I contented?" are probably some questions the seniors will ponder upon. Without doubt, some are happy with the early retirement and some wish they had more time.

I want to use this opportunity to let the secondary 2 and 3 members think about what their answers to the above mentioned questions might be when you stand down eventually. I see many become mature over these two years, becoming more responsible and involved. However, do not wait till you are secondary 4 to have visions and resolutions for the band because it'll all be too late.

To the graduating seniors, Thank You for being with the band through these years. We wish you the best in your coming examinations and most importantly, membership to PHCB is lifetime! We hope to see many of you come back as alumni members! Moreover, your duties will resume after your O Levels! We'll try to organise a mini concert and hope all of you can join us! I also expect us to be on the same coach/plane/train year end on our first overseas trip.

From now till O levels, feel free to come play on your instruments if you feel like doing so! You're always welcome to do so!

Recruitment Of Secondary 1s

Hi Members,

Just another announcement to make.

Some of you may not know, that this friday would be the CCA tryout for the sec 1s.
If any of us could come up with an idea of an interesting poster ( which would be pasted on the staircase blocks of our school like those NPCC posters ) , please leave a comment on the tagboard. A few 2 or 3 would do , not too many around the school.

Need not be to complicating or colourful.
And it has to be done ASAP, although it may sound impossible but no harm trying.

Lets do our best to encourage the Sec 1s on friday and leave them a good impression of ourselves.
We want at least 50 ! 5-0 Sec 1s!!
For the sake of our band and ourselves, JIA YOU!!! :D

2008 Band Practices

Dear Members,

Band Practice Times are as follows:

Mondays 4-6pm
Wednesdays 4-6pm
Fridays 230-530pm

Mondays will be either Sectionals/Full Band.
Please take note I'll be attending sectionals to train section leaders.

Wednesdays will be alternating combined sectionals and full band.
Very important to attend these because this is the time to improve your performance skills.
On alternate wednesdays, Miss Akari, Mr Tan and myself will be taking the combined sectionals. I will be working to get in somemore tutors especially for Horn and Flute sections.

Fridays will consist of every band member doing drills under your drum major from 230-315. Full band will be from 330-530pm.

Those members with tuition on either these 3 days, please try to see if you can change the tuition times.

For those who missed last friday's practice,
CCA Fiesta is this coming Friday (4/1/08) from 6pm to 9pm. Please make yourself available and dinner will be provided. We will be playing Pirates of the carribean.
We need more members! Please put in effort.
